Australiasia's independent body for automotive safety testing ANCAP (Australasian New Car Assessment Program) has awarded the 2022 Tesla Model Y a five-star rating.
Using a rating system of 0 to 5 stars, ANCAP star ratings indicate the level of safety a vehicle provides for occupants and pedestrians in the event of a crash, as well as its ability — through technology — to avoid or minimise the effects of a crash - ANCAP
The Model Y has already received one of the highest ratings possible in the US equivalent of ANCAP in 2021 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Breaking down the ANCAP rating, the results for the Model Y are:
Adult Occupant Protection - 97% vs (Model 3 96%)
Child Occupant Protection - 89% vs (Model 3 86%)
Vulnerable Road User Protection - 82% vs (Model 3 74%)
Safety Assist - 98% vs (Model 3 94%)
